It's all about the challenge

Two young Australians took 62 days to kayak from Sydney across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand. The expedition was the first kayak across the Tasman Sea, the long trans-oceanic expedition ever attempted in a double kayak with two expeditioners and the fourth longest open water paddle attempted in a kayak. You can read more about their adventure at www.crossingtheditch.com.au/.

Well it's no surprise that Gen Y's are after a challenge! So how can you make your workplace more challenging for a Gen Y employee? Maybe you can't offer a kayak trip across the Tasman but here are 5 tips to get you started:

1. Have them complete a skills audit and look at ways to build their weaker skills sets.

2. Have them develop a promotional presentation about the business that they could offer to Industry and Business Associations.

3. Have them develop a workplace blog or podcast series for employees.

4. Offer lots of variety in their job role.

5. Offer exciting learning experiences.

The Secret of Successful People

The Secrets of Successful People

Do you ever wonder what people do to become really successful?? I do. Here are some tips of what I do to help my on my success journey:

Find a Mentor: When I first started my business at 18 years old. I found a mentor, someone who was doing what I wanted to do, and I took them out to coffee and picked their brains. Those meetings helped me develop the business that I have today – 6 years later!!
Read about success: Learn the habits to make you effective at what you do.
Be early: I hate being late. Arrive early to activities, meetings – whatever. The early bird gets the worm!
Take up opportunities: Don’t be afraid to try something new or stretch yourself. Eleanor Roosevelt said “Do one thing everyday that scares you”, in a good way that is!! Join a sport, participate in a debate, join a public speaking club, go hot air ballooning!
Lead a healthy life – eat good foods, exercise and laugh lots J

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote this about Success:

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

Below is a video of Richard St. John, who has distiled a decade of research into a 3-minute slideshow on the real secrets of success. This video is taken from an awesome website called TED - www.ted.com which is a must see website, with loads of videos of people sharing ideas at the TED website.
